Tourism is a priority sector of the Bulgarian economy with strong growth potential. In recent years its importance for socio-economic development and its share in GDP rose steadily. There is increased investment in infrastructure and improvements in the legal and institutional framework for it. Significantly increase the number of SMEs in the sector.

In Vidin Region the tourism is represented mainly by companies offering hotel services, catering and licensed travel agencies. Despite the existing traditions, the wealth of natural, cultural and historic landmarks there is a decrease in the number of active operators in this sector, from 293 in 2004 to 261 in 2010. Simultaneously the size of the DMA increases, which indicates an improving of the quality of services to tourists, through modernization of existing tourist facilities or building new ones.

Referring to the National Strategy for development of tourism in the Republic of Serbia, Timocka krajina (belongs to the South-East area ) with its two Administrative Districts of Zajecar and Bor is taken as a developing factor in few kinds of tourism- water, spa, on mountains, urban, ramble, rural and other sorts of tourism and recreation.

This area is rich in various attractions that is one of 3 key elements for successful development of tourism and the most important among them are as it follows- the river of Danube with Djerdap ravine, Veliki and Mali kazan and the National park Djerdap, High land massifs where dominates Stara planina.  Other high land areas either partly or in all cover 1500 square kilometers or 20 % of  territory  of the Region as Kučajske planine, Deli Jovan, Mali i Veliki Krš, Miroč, Veliki Greben, Homoljske planine, Ozren, Rtanj, Devica, Tupižnica, Tresibaba, i Vrlejica.
