Vidin is a town with over two millennium history; it is located on the great bend of the Danube. Created from the Celts, it keeps traces of presence of different nations. It has remarkable cultural and historical monuments. Symbol of Vidin is "Baba Vida" - the only
entirely preserved medieval fortress in Bulgaria. 32,904 tourists, out of which 8,000 – foreign visitors, were recorded in 2012.
Development of tourism in all its forms is one of the priorities of Vidin. Statistics show that over the past three years Vidin is visited by about 150,000 tourists, a number of others that stayed overnight is almost 40 000 people. Cruise ships moored in Vidin Bank during the
last year 171, with 20,520 passengers. There are 26 hotels in the town, with 655 beds in 379 categorized rooms, and over 60 restaurants.
On June 14th, 2013 one of the largest infrastructure projects in the country had been opened - the bridge "New Europe" over the river Danube, linking Vidin with the Romanian town of Calafat and is now one of the preferred transport links to and from Europe.

"Dunav Park Vidin-Calafat" is designed as an area for sport and tourism, located mirrored on both sides of the river. In Vidin, the total area to build objects of trade and entertainment, playgrounds, hotels, and the technical infrastructure is about 57,3 ha.
Location includes the Gargaada area: southwest-northeast - from fortress "Baba Vida" to ferry; and the east: from the Danube to the protective dike.

General urban plan by means of which the area is intended for landscaping/grassing, sport and attractions

Conceptual design includes:

Rowing channel
Sports Complex;
Marina, yacht club;
Outdoor sports facilities - tennis, volleyball,
sheet piling;
A new pier for passenger ships;
Recreation area;
Fishing village;
Footpath over the rowing channel
Sport Hall
